Diana Sue Layson Looney, 74, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2016. Diana was born on February 23, 1942 in Harlan, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents Cyrus Steele Layson II and Ruby Lee Sandefur Layson and her brother Cyrus Steele Layson III. Diana was an amazing wife, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim Looney and their two sons, Paul (Natalie) and Matt (Eryn), both of Frankfort. She was the beloved Nana of Cate, Lachlan and Jason. She is also survived by her sisters Ruby Layson, Jody Globash, brother George Layson, and sister-in-law Marge Layson.
Diana was a 1960 graduate of Harlan High School in Harlan, Kentucky and a proud Green Dragon.
Diana was known by many for her gift of vocal music. She most often shared her talents for her Lord in church. She was also a voice teacher for many years. The choir of angels have a new soprano.
Diana was an extremely engaged citizen of Frankfort and a powerful advocate for open government. She spent countless hours working on community issues. City and County governments can rest easy that Diana will no longer be available to take them to task.
Diana took a genuine interest in the lives and well-being of other people and was always looking to engage. Diana will be remembered as compassionate, outgoing, feisty, passionate, caring and most of all vibrant for life. She adored her family and most of all her grandchildren. They continued to bring a smile to her face throughout her struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home, Frankfort, Kentucky on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations in Diana’s memory can be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Alzheimer’s Association of Kentucky.
